Semester reflection

I can honestly say I got a lot out of this class. I have always considered myself to be a creative individual. I am terrible at math, and understanding numerical issues. That being said, I have always had an ability to create. When I was a kid I would make homemade action figures out of things like pipe cleaners and tin foil. I would take a wooden spoon and some pots/ pans out of the kitchen and pretend I was playing drums. I loved classes like art, woodshop, and history that introduced me to new abstract concepts. To this day I still buy and build legos (yeah I know, I am a nerd). At the beginning of the semester I came into the class not knowing what to expect. I thought the class was going to consist of writing stories and poetry (which it did), but did not realize that it would help me connect a few pieces that I did not know I was missing. I suppose the best way to explain myself is like this. Imagine you are eating a new food, or you smell something and it's super familiar....

Collage Project

The year is 1995 and there he stood with 7 dollars in his pocket. His dream had been crushed. Not knowing what to do with himselfs he cursed the world. As the days passed he realized that he could not let his future fall to fate. “If one dream fails, pursue another”. Those were the words his father left him when he died. So the man decided to get to work. As the years passed, he found his story reaching more and more people. He pursued many professions, and found a new love for the world. He became everything and the world loved him, but with every great man comes someone to oppose him. This came in the form of a small blonde woman, and she hated this man. Our story starts in a world that runs on magic. Cars, trains, planes, buildings, and everything else uses magic in order to function. There are also people who use magic as a means to do their work. These people are called mages. A mage's work can range from a fighter, to a healer (doctor), entertainer, cook, and many other thing...

Storytelling project

I sat on the lukewarm morning sand that had not yet been warmed by the afternoon sun. I sat and relaxed as the first few rays of morning light breached through the barrier of darkness. Something, however, made me feel uneasy. Don't get me wrong, my life is great. I live on a small island in the Western sea. When I was very young my mother died from what my father tells me was an illness. After she passed, my dad packed us up and moved us to this island. My mother came from a rich family and my dad ended up inheriting it all when she died. The island that we live on is no more than 15 miles across, and has one small village that gets supplies weekly from some of the bigger surrounding islands. I was homeschooled till I was 18, and now I just help my dad out with chores around our property. We own a good portion of the island (about a third) and are essentially self-sustaining. We have chickens, 1 cow, and a large garden that we grow vegetables and citrus in. My thought was suddenl...

Creative Family Tree

One Inspiration for me (as seen on my creative family tree) is The Beastie Boys. I consider them to be some of the founding fathers of not just modern hip-hop music, but modern music as a whole. The Beastie Boys can be credited for pulling rap music into the mainstream, the creation of modern sampling, and pioneering genre-blending. These tactics are all extremely prevalent in today's world of music that is dominated by electronic production.  This got me thinking about what inspired the Beastie Boys to dive into the world of electronic production, and this led me to Kraftwerk. I can't say that I was unfamiliar with Kraftwerk before this project. I knew who they were, and that they recently got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. However, one thing that I did not realize about the group was the influence that they had on modern music production. I think a good place to start is by giving a short intro into who, and what Kraftwerk is. They are a German band that is ...
